    Simon May

    Chairman

Simon May took up the reigns of Club Chairman at the beginning of 2020, stepping up from his previous role as Competition Secretary; a proud moment indeed for Simon and his family.

Simon and his brother, Adrian, are well known competitors and contributors to motorsport, in FDMC and beyond, including much work behind the scenes for the Abingdon CAR-nival and FDMC Sprints.  They’re also strong contenders in sprints and rallies, at championship level, in cars prepared ‘after office hours’ at their motor engineering business, like this Escort.

Simon can be contacted on 01252 513985 (evenings) or click here to email.

    Iain Morris

Club Secretary, Treasurer & Social Secretary

I have been around FDMC all my life as a result of my dad being a very active member of the Club, from the 1970s up until he sadly passed away in 2022.  I joined the Committee because I wanted to give something back into the club that has given the Morris family so much enjoyment over the years.

My motorsport background is primarily tarmac rallying related. Drove my first rally on my 19th birthday and never looked back. Have had various success up to national level. I still have the car that I started using for rallies in 1991, although of a much better specification these days.

My next target is to work on the social side of the Club as I believe the next generation of volunteers and Committee members will arise from a more active social element of the club.  I believe FDMC is a great club, what makes it great is the members.

As a Committee member I’m always willing to listen to our members, to see how we can make our Club even better.

Iain can be contacted on 07747 182698 or click here to email.

  • Simon Taylor

    Competition Secretary

Like most car nuts, Simon was hooked long before reaching driving age, so his first motorsport exploits involved Scalextric models!

His Alpine-Renault GTA V6 turbo, shown here, was acquired in 2004. Simon, who’s also active in the Alpine Renault Owners Club, joined FDMC in 2006, entering the GTA in sprints and hillclimbs.

With continuing development of the car, results have included class wins, and above all a lot of fun. The ‘silver bullet’ also gets used in European navigational rallies and for social purposes.

Having joined the committee as Competition Secretary in 2011, Simon was Chairman until the start of 2020, and has now reverted back to being our Comp Sec.

Simon can be contacted on 07966 826 706 or email.

    Neil Brown

    AutoSolo

Neil has been a member of the Club since 2013. He likes competing in AutoSolo, Sprint and Targa events with his Ford Puma, with some success and always with a big smile on his face.

Neil has always loved cars but he started in Club motorsport with little to no mechanical knowledge. He threw himself into running and maintaining his car while competing and has gone from having never done an oil change to a full car rebuild.

When not competing he can also be seen supporting the Club with event organising roles as well as being one of the club’s Time Keepers. He finds the organising side of our sport just as fun as competing.

Neil can be contacted on 07808 863 755 or email.

    Mark Straker

    Special Operations

Mike joined the committee in 2025 to work on Special Projects.  Mark writes:

Born into motorsport in 1971, with a father who had been a successful navigator in the 1960’s, competing in the MN road rally championship and also in the 1964 Monte Carlo & RAC Rally. By 1971 Dad was competing as a driver – so I had no choice but to get involved in the sport!  I started co-driving for my Dad at age 14, mainly on single venue stage rallies in South of England Championships.

A week after starting at the University of Surrey, where I gained a degree in Mechanical Engineering, I drove in my first stage rally at age 18, driving my Dad’s Sebring Sprite, with him navigating! I was then hooked, and bought my Talbot Sunbeam in January 1991, and enjoyed many seasons of fun, and some success, until the Sunbeam’s sale in 1999, at which point Dad & I had committed to buying our first Darrian.

I have stuck with the Darrian brand ever since, with success coming on several single venues, then finally the Harry Flatters Rally over Epynt in 2013 (after many attempts). 2014 & 2015 resulted in more success, including two victories in Ireland, on the ALMC Stages & Wexford Stages.

Since then I have concentrated on developing a new power unit for stage rallying, with the direct injection 1.6L Ford EcoBoost engine, which is turbocharged, and has to run a 34mm restrictor.

Having regularly marshaled over the years, but never having been on the organising committee of any events, I have recently joined the FDMC Committee, specifically with a view to giving back to the sport that has given me so much over the years.

    Paul Prescott

    Membership

Paul has competed successfully in most types of event, including Autotests, Car Trials, and Autocross, where he’s a previous National class champion. The contents of his garage – and driveway – bear out Paul’s long standing enthusiasm for BMC Minis, and any members who are Mini-orientated can rely on his help and encouragement.  As a regular competitor in AutoSolos, with FDMC and other Clubs, he was a frequent award winner with a 1275cc Mini, pictured here.

In previous times, Paul campaigned an MG Midget in Car Trials, Autotests, Hillclimbs and Sprints, a couple of Road Navigation Rallies, and a Sporting Trials Car, usually shared with wife, Helen, on frequently cold and muddy Sporting Car Trials events.  He says his proudest moments were achieving 3rd overall 3 times in the RAC National Autocross Championship, taking Fastest Time of the Day at the Final on his last attempt.

In his committee role, Paul takes care of our Club membership affairs.

Paul can be contacted on 01252 677736 (evenings) or by email.

    Mike Taylor

    Deputy Membership Secretary

Mike joined the committee in 2025 to work as Deputy Membership Secretary.  Mike writes in:

I joined Farnborough in the mid 2000’s (can’t remember what year!) competing in AutSolos initially in my classic Mini then followed by various Fords and Ford-powered cars over the years.  Circuit racing an Escort RS Turbo and Solos, Sprints, Targas and 12 Cars in various Pumas, Fiestas , Ecorts and – for a change – Morgans.  I wanted to join the Committee and help because of all the enjoyment and help from the Club and it’s members over the year.

  • Bright blue BMW race car with number 79 and two men standing beside it at an outdoor rally event

    Tom Eckett

    Junior Members

Tom has been an enthusiastic competitor within the FDMC ranks since starting AutoSolos the day after his 14th birthday. He quickly progressed, achieving respectable results in his Mini before moving onto Sprinting.

More recently, Tom has developed a keen interest in rallying, starting as a navigator for experienced Club drivers before competing in his first rally in late 2024, behind the wheel of his BMW Compact.

Throughout his time with the club, Tom has been actively involved in supporting events, helping with setup and marshaling whenever needed. His passion for motorsport and dedication to the club continue to grow, and he looks forward to contributing more in the future.

Update: Tom has joined the Committee in 2025 as our Junior Champion (encouraging and supporting youngsters into motorsport).
